Sophie B. Hawkins: A selection of songs from the new musical BIRDS OF NEW YORK
Join Grammy Award nominee and famed pop singer Sophie B. Hawkins for an intimate evening alongside an accomplished cast of Broadway performers as she shares songs and stories from her new musical BIRDS OF NEW YORK, currently in development. Witness the creative process in action as Sophie brings to life this Thanksgiving tale of a daughter who comes home to heal, only to find she has no idea what she’s in for.
Billie, a famed singer songwriter whose life has recently imploded in CA, receives a letter from her estranged sister, Celeste, that their father is dying. When Billie arrives at the family apartment in Manhattan with her 7 year old son, she is stunned by the reality of what’s happened in the years that have passed. Billie chooses to stay in her childhood apartment and raise her son Beau because she wants her family to heal. The battles over territory, truth, sobriety and sanity rage in the rent controlled apartment overlooking Central Park until Elan, Billie’s oldest friend, drops an irrefutable memory bomb on Thanksgiving. From the ashes, the stage is set for real forgiveness, and the real healing begins.
